Collaborating with BNPB, IATA Helicopters Distribute Aid for Earthquake Victims in Mamuju

Reported by okezone.com PT Indonesia Transport & Infrastructure Tbk (IATA) in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) helped earthquake victims in Mamuju, West Sulawesi.

As scheduled, today the team will fly to the disaster site with logistical assistance.

“Today, January 20, 2021, BNPB flew to Mamuju, West Sulawesi, bringing logistical assistance to be distributed to earthquake victims. The flight uses an ECC 155B1 helicopter from PT Indonesia Transport & Infrastructure Tbk,” said Managing Director of PT Indonesia Transport & Infrastructure Tbk A. Wishnu Handoyono, in Jakarta, Wednesday (20/1/2020).

IATA, continued Wishnu, is consistently involved in the process of distributing aid and evacuation. IATA helped during the earthquake disaster management in Donggala, Central Sulawesi and West Nusa Tenggara in 2018, as well as sending medical equipment during the pandemic.

To note, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 rocked West Sulawesi, on Friday (1/15/2021) at around 02.28 WIB in the morning. Previously, West Sulawesi had also been rocked by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 on Thursday (14/1/2021), noon at 13:35 WIB.

As a result of a series of earthquakes, a number of buildings were badly damaged and even collapsed. Not only that, the earthquake also caused landslides which resulted in the disconnection of the connecting road from Majene to Mamuju. Until now, there are still many residents of Majene and Mamuju who survive in refugee camps.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Control for Earthquake Recovery in West Sulawesi (Sulbar) Military Resort Commander (Danrem) 142/Tatag Brigadier General Firman Dahlan explained the latest death toll from the earthquake in Majene and Mamuju. From the data received until Tuesday (19/1/2021) at 16.00 WIB, there have been 90 deaths recorded in Majene and Mamuju. They consisted of 79 people in Mamuju, and 11 in Majene.
